How to Use

This is a guide to use the Shinshu Digital Commons (hereinafter referred to as the "Archive").

Each operation is described for a PC. Thank you for your understanding.

1. Carousel

The image displayed at the top of this archive TOP page is called a carousel.

This is a list of materials registered in this archive that are particularly interesting to see. Clicking on the image will take you to “the material detail information page” of each material (the material detail information page where you can get detailed information about each material, such as its field and copyright).

2. Search

There are three ways to search for materials.

1) Using a keyword search

You can enter any character.

【Operation】

Please enter any character in the "Keyword Search" field in the center of the TOP page.

When searching for multiple words, please separate them with a space. (e.g., Shinshu Illustrated)

2) Using a simple search

It is possible to search by specifying the menu of the TOP page.

  • Material Search

    You can select the content of the material. By clicking the check buttons for each content, it is possible to check the corresponding types of materials together. The content of the materials and the correspondence between the types of materials are as follows.

  • Category Search

    You can select the category of the material.

  • Era Search

    You can select the era of the material.

  • Municipality Map Search

    This Archive have municipality map and list page of the locations where the materials were created. You can select the locations using this map or list.

3) Using Detailed Search

You can search by setting detailed terms such as creator, description of materials, organization name, license, and content type (images and videos).

【Operation】

  1. Click the [Detailed Search] button on the right side of the [Keyword Search] field in the center of the TOP page.
  2. Enter the information you want to search (*) in each search item and click the "Search" button at the bottom of this detailed search page.

    The search items and input method are as follows.

    Keyword Search Please enter any character.
    Title Please enter any character.
    Creator Please enter any person’s name or organization name.
    Material Explanation Please enter any character.
    Field When you click on ▼ next to the right of the search item field, multiple categories are displayed in the pull-down menu. Please check the categories you want to search for. ※Multiple specifications are possible.
    Material When you click on ▼ next to the right of the search item field, multiple materials are displayed in the pull-down menu. Please check the material you want to search for. ※Multiple specifications are possible.
    Era When you click on ▼ next to the right of the search item field, multiple categories are displayed in the pull-down menu. Please check the categories you want to search for. ※Multiple specifications are possible.
    Location (Municipality name) When you click on ▼ next to the right of the search item field, multiple eras are displayed in the pull-down menu. Please check the era you want to search for. ※Multiple specifications are possible.
    Organization name Please put a check □ before Organization name you want to search.
    License Search Please put a check □ before License you want to search.
    Content Type Please put a check □ before Content Type you want to search.

3. How to view search results

1) Changing the display mode

On the search results page, you can display the search results in three display modes.

  • List View

    All search results will be listed. When you click on the title, the material’s detail page will be displayed.

  • Thumbnail View

    All search results are listed as thumbnail images. When you click on the title or thumbnail image, the material’s detail page will be displayed.

  • Map View

    If the materials in the search results have location information registered, you can find the material you want to search for on this map.

【Operation】

Click on the tab of your choice from the three tabs displayed at the top of the search results list. The display mode can be changed.

2) Change in the number of displays

You can change the number of search results displayed in "List View" and "Thumbnail View" modes. The default is "50".

The default is "50".

【Operation】

  1. Click on [▼] under [Per Page] in the upper part of the search results list. The number of items displayed will be pulled down for "50,100,200".
  2. Click on the number of items you want to display with your mouse.

3) Sorting

The search results can be sorted in "List View" and "Thumbnail View" modes.

The items that you can sort and the order in which they are sorted are as follows.

【Operation】

  1. Click on [▼] in the [Sort by] field at the top of the search results list. The sort order "title order, title reverse order, creator order, creator reverse order" will be displayed in the pull-down menu.
  2. Click on the items you want to sort with your mouse.

4) Refine Search

You can further refine your search in "List View" and "Thumbnail View" modes.

【Operation】

  1. Click on [○] in the [Refine Search] field above the search results list. Refined search menu appears.
  2. Enter any character in the item filed you want to refine search or check the contents of the "pull-down" box. Reference: 2.3) Using Detailed Search

    ※The current search item has already been entered.

  3. Click [Search].

4. How to view the material detail page

On the material detail page, you can view detailed information about the material.

  • Specifically, Material code, Title, Category, Location (name of city, town or village), Year of production (Western and Japanese calendar), Era, Creator, and Material Explanation, Secondary conditions of use, Copyright.

    ※The information displayed for each organization is slightly different.

  • You can view materials (images and videos).

There are two main types of materials registered in this archive: images and videos.

Here is a guide to how to use each of the materials.

※In addition, 2)Video’s menus may be different depending on the browser you are using. Thank you for your understanding in advance.

1) Image data

Click the left mouse button on the area where "Image" is displayed in [the material detail information page]. *The various browse function buttons will be displayed.

Enlarge the image You can Enlarge the image with each click.。

※This function may not be displayed if the image display area is too small.
Please use the "Enlarge the image" menu in the "Menu" button at the top right of the area where the image is displayed.

Reduce the image You can Reduce the image with each click.。

※This function may not be displayed if the image display area is too small.
Please use the "Reduce the image" menu in the "Menu" button at the top right of the area where the image is displayed.

Return to Home Returns to the default display of the material detail information page.
Display according to width Display the width of the material image in accordance with the width of the image display area.
Display according to height Display the height of the material image in accordance with the height of the image display area.
Rotate the image 90 degrees to the right Each time you click, the image is rotated 90 degrees to the right.
Slider panel This is a function to display the material images easily. Once clicked, the slider panel menu (below) will be displayed. Click again and the slider panel menu will disappear.
Slider panel menu* Rotation After clicking [Rotation], moving the● on the slider panel to the left rotates the displayed image to the left, while moving it to the right rotates it to the right.
Luminance After clicking [Luminance], moving the ● on the slider panel to the left to decreases the Luminance of the displayed image, while moving it to the right to increases the Luminance.
Chroma After clicking [Chroma], moving the ● on the slider panel to the left to decreases the Chroma of the displayed image, while moving it to the right to increases the Chroma.
Contrast After clicking [Contrast], moving the ● on the slider panel to the left to decreases the Contrast of the displayed image, while moving it to the right to increases the Contrast.
Gamma After clicking [Gamma], moving the ● on the slider panel to the left to decreases the Gamma of the displayed image, while moving it to the right to increases the Gamma.
Grayscale Clicking on this menu will display the image in grayscale.
Color reversal Clicking on this menu will reverse the color of the image.
Reset Restores the image display state to the initial state.
*If the image display area is small, the entire menu may not be displayed. Please place the mouse over the slider panel and turn the mouse wheel. The menu that is not displayed will be displayed.

Display function Operating Instructions
Go to the top page In the case of a multi-page material, the first page will be displayed.
Go to the end of the page In the case of a multi-page material, the last page will be displayed.
Enlarge the image* You can Enlarge the image with each click.。
Reduce the image* You can Reduce the image with each click.。
Resetting the image rotation angle* Return the image to its original angle.
Rotate the image 90 degrees to the left* Each time you click, the image is rotated 90 degrees to the left.
Rotate the image 90 degrees to the right* Each time you click, the image is rotated 90 degrees to the right.
Navigator Display an image of the entire material ("Navigator") at the top right of the image display area, so that if you're zooming in on the material, you can visually determine which part of it you're looking at.※If you click on "Navigator" again, this view will disappear.
Full screen display The material will be displayed on the full screen. Press [ESC] to return to the previous display.
Download Images You can select the file type (JPEG or JPEG2000) and download it. You can download only the image currently displayed. If you want to download multiple pages, repeat this process.
Quote image This function is explained in "5. Utilization of materials (explanation of the quote function)"

※This function will not work if the material is not available for secondary use.

Content Information Displays the content information currently being displayed on the screen.
*Menu that is displayed only when the image display area is small.

2) Video materials

On the [The material detail information page], hover the mouse over the area where "Movie" is displayed to display the various function buttons.

Button Operating Instructions
Play / Pause button Play or Pause the video.
Seek Bar Show the current playback position of the video. Click on the bar or drag the slider with the mouse to move the playback position.
Mute Button / Volume Bar Mute the volume. Press it again to release it. Use the volume bar to adjust the volume.
Full screen display The video is displayed on the full screen. Press [ESC] to return to the previous display.
Download You can download the video by clicking on the "Download" button that appears when you click on the mouse.
*The display screen may be different depending on your browser.

5. Utilization of materials (explanation of the quote function)

The images available in this archive can be partially cropped (quoted) for secondary use.

※This function will not work if the material is not available for secondary use.

【Operation】

  1. Display the image you want to quote on the page in [The material detail information page]. (You may enlarge the image and display it partially.)
  2. Left-click your mouse on the area where "Image" is displayed to display the menu in the upper-right corner of this page.
  3. Click [Menu], and then click [Quote Image]. The following confirmation message about the quote will be displayed. 。

    About the quote.

    The quote function is a function to create a URL by cutting out an any area of the image. Select the area you want to cut out on the image, and then select "Quote". Changed values such as brightness will not be reflected in the citation.

  4. Click [OK].
  5. Click on the top left of the image you want to quote with the left mouse button and drag it to the bottom right. A white frame will appear in the quoted section.
  6. Click [Quote] at the bottom of the page. (To retry or cancel in the middle, click [Retry] or [Cancel].)
  7. The following information will be displayed.
    • Upper part of the page : The image of the area that was operated in 5.
    • Center of the page : Message "You have successfully registered. You can access the image by using the following URL and HTML tags.
    • Under the message : URL and HTML tag
    • Bottom of the page : [Close] button
  8. Copy the URL or HTML tag in 7. to a notepad and keep a copy of it.
  9. Click [Close]button to finish the quotation process.
